Samuel Griffith
The world is too much with us,
yet it fits perfectly in my hands.
A gentle cup of the small leaves,
and a grasp of desperation to thin air.
the rest of it creates a thick barrier of heat,
warping the tip of my pencil as i write.
I drip heavy paint onto the pages,
much too scared to create fine lines with a brush,
instead, it stays parked on the crevice of my ear,
daring to touch the burning wisps of my faded hair.
Small clovers grow from beneath my fingers,
beneath the molten gravel i sit on,
beneath the crawling bugs that live in the exhaust of it all,
and that’s as big as it’ll get.
The world, so much with us,
begins to melt in my hands.
