58 years ago, on 8 June 1967, Israeli forces launched a deliberate, devastating, unprovoked attack on the USS Liberty in international waters in the Mediterranean.
Radio communications make it absolutely clear that the attackers and their commanders were aware that it was a US ship. Yet the US government accepted Israel’s official story that it was just a tragic accident. The US covered up the attack and ordered the survivors not to discuss it at all.
Like the current genocide in Gaza, their attack on the USS Liberty shows Israel’s willingness to ignore international law.
