Use your talents, insight, and knowledge to help create a better world! Help find ways to end the destructive mindset that allows ‘business-as-usual’ to continue even in the face of overwhelming evidence of harm!
Because the Alliance has such diverse goals, we can respond to your ideas to create internship opportunities. See below for a list of of previous and proposed internships.
In addition, we do have two specific opportunities:
Editing, Publication, and Communication – Help design and publish the next issue of the quarterly journal Left Turn. Interns will also assist with the Alliance website and create materials to raise public awareness about sustainability-related topics, including education about climate change & climate justice and healthy food.
As part of your internship, you will review and analyze submissions and discuss many aspects of sustainability and have the opportunity to do blog posts on this website and/or the Teaching Climate website.
Teaching Climate – We think schools have a duty to teach the truth about the real world — no matter how uncomfortable it may seem. When they fail to do this (whether because of state-imposed standards or local inaction) they are making school less relevant to students’ lives and failing to prepare them for the world they will face.
Help create materials to raise public awareness about the importance of teaching climate & climate justice at all levels. In the process, you will come to more fully understand global warming and climate change, as well as the many key aspects of education for sustainability.
In addition to those listed below, if you see another systemic issue that fits with our approach to overcoming barriers to sustainability, let us know and we’ll consider it!

Is an Alliance internship right for you? Alliance internships combine research, analysis, and activism to raise both public & professional awareness on critical topics. (And they may sometimes involve advocating controversial issues or positions.)

We developed many of our internships in response to student requests, so please contact us if you are interested in an internship that’s not listed. We generally offer summer internships as well. Contact internship coordinator Peter Crownfield for more information.
Most schools allow you to change courses without penalty during the first week or two of the semester, but we urge you to apply well in advance if possible.
