Help Create a Just & Sustainable world!
Use your talents, insight, and knowledge to help create a better world! Help find ways to end the destructive mindset that allows ‘business-as-usual’ to continue even in the face of overwhelming evidence of harm!
Teaching Climate – We think schools have a duty to teach the truth about the real world — no matter how uncomfortable it may seem. When they fail to do this (whether because of state-imposed standards or local inaction) they are making school less relevant to students’ lives and failing to prepare them for the world they will face.
Interns will help develop ways to implement an effective plan for teaching climate, including the importance of teaching climate climate education at all levels. In the process, they will come to more fully understand global warming and climate change, and to strengthen their project development skills
Editing, Publication, and Communication – Help design and publish the next edition of the Alliance’s Sustainable Lehigh Valley booklet and assist the next issue of the quarterly journal Left Turn. Interns will also assist with the Alliance website and create materials to raise public awareness about sustainability-related topics.
See below for examples of previous internships. If you see another systemic issue that fits with our approach to overcoming barriers to sustainability, let us know and we’ll consider it!
Special Notice: At this time we are able to offer internships only on a remote basis — contact Peter Crownfield, coordinator.
The most important thing I did during my internship was to meet people and find out how many factors go into changing the way something is done.… I learned how to find out about things that tend to be hidden, talk to people about things they would rather pretend do not exist, and solve problems that seem overwhelming at first glance.” (JT, Lafayette College)

Is an Alliance internship right for you? Alliance internships combine research, analysis, and activism to raise both public & professional awareness on critical topics. (And they may sometimes involve advocating controversial issues or positions.)
“Working with the Alliance allowed me to collaborate with individuals who shared my passion for sustainability, as well as voice my own ideas…. a truly rewarding and enjoyable experience…” (LB, Muhlenberg College)
We developed many of our internships in response to student requests, so please contact us if you are interested in an internship that’s not listed. We generally offer summer internships as well. Contact internship coordinator Peter Crownfield for more information.
Most schools allow you to change courses without penalty during the first week or two of the semester, but we urge you to apply well in advance if possible.
Questions? — Send an email to internship coordinator Peter Crownfield
NOTE: Availability may change or a given internship may be filled. Some internships may not be offered at all colleges.
