From Friends of the Earth, 9/8/16:
In the last year, President Obama has auctioned off tens of thousands of acres of public lands and waters to Fossil Fuel Empires. On September 20th, he’s planning to auction off more than 4,000 more acres.
President Obama still has a chance to stop this. With one executive action, he could keep all fossil fuels on our public lands and waters in the ground. Next week, we’re aiming to deliver one million signatures telling him to do just that — but we’re still a few thousand short.
Every new lease sale brings us closer to climate chaos, and we’re already seeing the impacts.
The historic flooding in Louisiana last month is being described as one of the worst climate disasters in U.S. history. Yet, as Gulf communities reeled from this devastating flooding, the Obama administration continued with business as usual and auctioned off an area the size of Virginia for offshore drilling in the Gulf of Mexico.
This is unconscionable.
Climate change has fueled and intensified the unprecedented flooding in not only Louisiana, but all across the Gulf.
Join the many others in telling President Obama to stop auctioning off our public lands and waters for corporate profit!
Standing with you,
