As I get further on the path toward healing, I recognize that as a physician I can impact many people. When we walk our talk, it has a powerful, mesmerizing life of its own. Since that wonderful day when a patient, 15 years ago, said to me as she was leaving the office, “By the way, I teach meditation, are you interested?” to which I answered, “What’s that?” I have been on a healing journey.
Meditation led me to friends who ate organically, wore natural fibers, and recycled. Soon, my entire life became a conscious effort to feed my mind, body and spirit with precious, wholesome “food”. The word “conscious” I use quite decidedly, for it is only in the present that we can be on an evolving path toward God.
Which leads to my next point: we are poisoning God’s beautiful earth with 80,000 new chemicals introduced in the past 100 years, in the name of progress. We taint our waters, poison our fish with PCBs and mercury, feed our beautiful livestock with antibiotic and hormone laced pellets instead of grass.
And in the name of safety, we pasteurize and ultra-pasteurize our milk, destroying all of the marvelous enzymes and vitamins, to replace them with synthetic ghosts of healthy nutrition. We genetically modify and sterilize our food, creating “Frankenfoods” which have created some of the sickest inhabitants on our planet.
Though there are many scientists speaking eloquently against these mindless acts, they are ignored, and agribusiness continues to flourish financially. I passionately request that we educate ourselves to understand the benefits of maintaining sustainable communities, engage in food coops so we can regain the health of mind/body/spirit that we so blindly gave away to the “authorities”.
God is in each of us, and when we listen to that still small voice called intuition, we can be guided toward health and wholeness once again.
