Marx is coming to the Lehigh Valley. It’s his 200th birthday.

Did you see Jason Barker’s op-ed “Happy Birthday, Karl Marx. You Were Right!” in the April 20, 2018 New York Times? And the responses to it?

Well, whether maligned or praised, Karl Marx has been misrepresented and so he’s coming to the Lehigh Valley to set the record straight – in a September 21, 2018 production of Marx in Soho, a one-person play by historian, playwright, and social activist Howard Zinn. Bob Weick, a former Lehigh Valley resident, will be channeling Marx at 7pm (doors open at 6:30pm) on stage at the Ice House on Sand Island, Bethlehem.

As to what so wordy a fellow as Marx can say in such a brief stay, we’re leaving that to Zinn. But as to whom Marx can speak, that’s up to us. To help get the word out, the Beyond Capitalism Working Group (BCWG) has invited other organizations to join in sponsoring this performance of Marx in Soho.

Co-sponsors: Alliance for Sustainable Communities-Lehigh Valley, Basement Poetry, Beyond Capitalism Working Group, Green Action at Lehigh University, Lehigh Valley Greens, LEPOCO Peace Center, Mock Turtle Marionette Theater, Moravian College Theatre Company, South Side Initiative, Tackling T.I.N.A.

This performance is part of the national and international Marx in Soho tour Bob Weick has been doing to celebrate the 200th birthday of Karl Marx.

Bob Weick is not a newcomer to the role. When he started the tour in 2017, he had already performed Karl Marx in his acclaimed production of Marx in Soho over 300 times.

We cordially invite you to attend. To be especially welcoming, admission is free (donations welcome).
