Industrial Food Production
Most food in the United States is grown on an industrial agribusiness model that relies on huge ‘factory farms’ that are highly mechanized and make extensive use of artificial chemicals. Livestock farms crowd huge numbers of animals into confined spaces that cause or promote disease and poor health, not to mention being incredibly cruel to the animals.
Threats to our food include not only the bacterial contamination we hear about in the media — technologies such as genetic engineering and most practices of the industrial food system also pose serious threats to our health.
