As more and more cities and institutions develop climate action plans, the push is on formal institutions and businesses to do their part. This internship will have a focus on reducing GHG Emissions – Identifying ways to reduce energy use, thus reducing costs and GHG emissions at the same time, based largely on work by Health Care Without Harm and Practice Greenhealth. Interns would focus on one or more of the following activities:
- Research effective sustainability practices already in use by hospitals and healthcare institutions throughout the country
- Help review existing operations to identify opportunities and develop practical ways to become more sustainable;;
- Develop and implement specific plans in accord with operational needs and the need to be sustainable.
- Analyze how addressing these problems will improve current and long-term sustainability of communities
- Explore the role of institutions in perpetuating problems — and for creating change
- Work with community members, educators, and local organizations
- Take action to raise awareness and understanding including presentations, fact sheets, and/or posters
- Write articles or speak to groups on various aspects of sustainability and community resilience
