June 25, 2012: Sheila Gallagher is owner of Amaranth Interiors, Inc., which has been in business for over 20 years specializing in Kitchen & Bath Design. She graduated from Tyler School of Art and holds a Masters Degree in Interior Design from Drexel University. Her work in design has led her to an understanding and use of “green” materials and alternative energy sources.
As a member of the Pennsylvania Association of Sustainable Agriculture (PASA), she attended the 2011 conference and went to the evening screening of “Gasland” and decided that the problems addressed in the film needed to be actively worked on. After returning home, she started attending local Sierra Club meetings and then chaired the committee which presented the informational conference “Marcellus Shale Exposed” in March 2012, bringing numerous nationally known fracking experts to the Lehigh Valley.
She currently serves on the Executive Committee of the Sierra Club’s Lehigh Valley Group and the PA Chapter’s Sustainable Agriculture Chair.
She is an avid organic gardener who is constantly adding to her front yard Food Forest and taking classes in Permaculture and Sustainable Design/Build practices such as Straw Bale & Cob construction.
Her interest in the Transitions movement has led her to visit & research Eco Villages in the Northeast.
