Philadelphia: Best of Greenbuild 2012

Date/Time Thursday, May 3, 2012
from 11:30 AM to 6:00 PM

Envisioning sustainable schools and stadiums, revived community centers, celebrated historic buildings, national demonstration projects and energized leaders. Opening Plenary speaker: Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter, on “What Will the World See in 2013?: Counting Down to Greenbuild Philadelphia”, a look ahead at a Sustainable Convention Center, a thriving Navy Yard, and promises from leading regional businesses, advocacy groups, and cultural institutions.

Session 2A, “The Proof for a New Sustainability Equation: High Performance Schools = High Performance Kids”, uses case studies from Allentown School District, Philadelphia School District and Wilmington School District in considering the question: can green schools not only save districts money but also improve the educational experience of students?

DVGBC Members: $49
Non-Members: $65
Students/SDC Young Professionals: $10

5 GBCI credits available to choose from during the conference.

A DVGBC (Delaware Valley Green Building Council) event.

From a Transition Perspective:
It does deal with green building practices. However, for the most part, it does not seem to consider the sustainability or unsustainability of what is going on in the buildings (for example, how do the pharmaceutical companies, Tastykake baking company, and defense contractors at the Navy Yard promote sustainable, resilient, and healthy communities?) – Session 2A on schools seems to be an exception to this concern.
