Democracy In Action | Social Entrepreneurship
This internship focuses on protecting the institutions of democracy, on working directly for change, and/or on preparing people for strong and effective participation in a democratic society; interns will work with the Alliance and/or other community-based organizations that work with us.
We seek a balance between your individual interests and the goals of an existing or planned project, so opportunities may vary according to needs at the time of the internship. Potential areas of focus include protecting civil liberties; students’ rights; community food production; criminal justice reform; militarism in schools; affordable housing; education; public transportation; voting systems; universal healthcare; and municipal governance. We will also consider new projects, but internships are based on working with the Alliance and other community-based organizations.
If your primary interest is in Campus Sustainability; Climate Change & Peak Oil Relocalization; Editing, Writing, & Publishing; Education for Sustainable Communities; Energy; or the Future of Food, you might want to those internships instead:
Requirements: We are looking for students who have a strong interest in promoting and protecting true participatory democracy. Your major and field of study are not as important as the skills and interest you bring to the project. Attention to detail and good interpersonal skills are essential, as you may work with community members, students, and teachers and/or help with public presentations.
