Dr. Rex A. D’Agostino
July 6, 2012: Dr. D’Agostino, a native of New Jersey, completed his doctoral program at the University of Notre Dame within the Department of Microbiology, specializing in the utilization of biophysical tools and models applied to the study of viral transformation and oncology.
From the home of the Fighting Irish, “Dr. Rex”, as he has been called by his friends and acquaintances, embarked on a 35 year career developing high technology businesses, products, and markets in such fields as ultra fine filtration, waste management, in vitro diagnostic products, and in the most recent years, renewable energy with a focus toward institutional and corporate sustainability. Dr. Rex has held senior executive positions such as: President of the Graver Companies (Union, NJ) with 5 world–wide operating divisions devoted to water and fluid purification; Senior Vice President Marketing & Sales for Evergreen Solar (Marlboro, MA), a manufacturer of photovoltaic panels; in recent years, President & Executive Director of the Sustainable Energy Fund of Central Eastern Pennsylvania (Allentown, PA); and, currently, Senior Vice President, Business Development for ECON Opportunities, Inc., an organization dedicated to the minimization of institutional and consumer energy waste and its conversion to high technology lighting technologies.
Dr. Rex has also been involved with non-profits like the Alliance for Sustainable Communities as well as with organizations that develop products, markets and businesses focused on renewable energy. The latter has included: (1) ASTM 6751 biodiesel and B-TANETM produced from waste vegetable oil, as well as (2) assist in the start up of businesses such as The Association of Restaurant Owners for a Sustainable Earth (AROSE), an enterprise focusing on assisting commercial food service providers generate sustainable policies by waste diversion and minimization.
Dr. Rex’s current entrepreneurial venture, ECON Opportunities, Inc., is in the early phases of establishing lighting retrofit technologies to municipalities, local businesses, and institutions with the attempt to reduce energy consumption and cost, utilizing LED and Induction lighting technologies. ECON has a strategy focused on a future based upon a sustainable economy.
Dr. Rex previously ran for the State Legislature representing the 183rd District which covers portions of Lehigh and Northampton Counties. Because of his interest in generating a sustainable environment, he advocates the appropriate use of technologies which support renewable energy generation. Compromising the natural resource base within our community is not an acceptable approach and can be mitigated with the use of appropriate renewable energy technologies and products.
